HER STORY
Lucy Stone was born on August 13, 1818 and died October 18, 1893. She was born into a farming family. As she was growing up, she didn't quite understand the reason that her father (any husband in a family) was the one who ran the family. He got all of the money that anyone earned because they were the family power. Women were meant to have specific tasks and stick to those tasks. If a women wanted to do something, especially with money, they needed to talk to the head of the family and get permission first.
Lucy Stone kept her public activities between 1857 and 1865 (Kerr 2). However, right after the Civil War she took back her job as a leader in the woman's rights movement. She kept this job until her death in 1893. Lucy Stone was fighting all through her life. From her childhood to her deathbed, she was fighting for the rights for women. |
